Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said in a statement that he was proud to call Feinstein a colleague and a friend.

“Senator Feinstein always put our country first by working across the aisle to implement commonsense solutions for the American people, including championing the comprehensive CIA torture report following 9/11 and the preservation of cherished public lands such as Joshua Tree National Park and the Mojave National Preserve,” Manchin said. “Whether it was on the Senate floor or the Appropriations Committee room, I always found her to be passionate, intelligent and incredibly tenacious. I am so thankful to Sen. Feinstein for her years of public service and Gayle and I are praying for her family, friends, staff and the people of California as we all mourn the passing of this icon of American politics.”
